6 Steps to Import your URL Redirects on Shopify

Importing URL redirects on Shopify can be a time-saving process, especially if you're migrating from another platform or restructuring your website.

Here are the steps to import your URL redirects on Shopify:

Prepare Your Redirect Data:

Before importing, make sure you have a CSV file containing your old URLs and their corresponding new URLs.

Each row in the CSV file should represent a redirect, with columns for the old URL (Source) and the new URL (Target).

You can use spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to create and organize this data.

Format Your CSV File:

Ensure your CSV file is properly formatted for Shopify's import requirements.

The first row should contain headers indicating the content of each column (e.g., "Source", "Target").

Subsequent rows should contain the data for each redirect, with each cell separated by commas.

Access URL Redirects Section in Shopify:

Log in to your Shopify admin panel and navigate to the "Online Store" section. From there, click on "Navigation" and then select "URL Redirects." This will bring you to the page where you can manage your URL redirects.

Import Your CSV File:

On the URL Redirects page, locate the "Import" button. Click on it to open the import tool. Choose your prepared CSV file from your computer and upload it.

Shopify will then validate the file to ensure it meets the required format. If there are any errors, Shopify will provide feedback so you can correct them.

Review and Confirm:

After the validation process, Shopify will display a preview of your URL redirects. Review this preview carefully to ensure that the redirects are mapped correctly.

Pay attention to any warnings or errors Shopify may display. If everything looks good, confirm the import process.

Shopify will then import your redirects, and you'll receive a confirmation message once the process is complete.

Test Your Redirects:

Once the import is finished, it's essential to test your redirects to ensure they are functioning as expected.

Visit some of the old URLs to see if they redirect to the correct new URLs. Make any necessary adjustments if you encounter any issues.

By following these steps, you can efficiently import your URL redirects on Shopify, helping to maintain SEO value and provide a seamless experience for your website visitors.
