Shopify’s Checkout Extensibility offers a robust set of tools and features for customizing the checkout process, enabling merchants to create a tailored and optimized checkout experience for their customers.

All Plus traders who nevertheless want to upgrade to Checkout Extensibility to proportion extra information about what will appear after the August 13, 2024 cut-off date. Shopify sharing this information with you in advance that will help you provide readability for your customers and help them avert disruptions to their agencies.

In February 2023 Shopify announced that Shopify moving to Checkout Extensibility, a new foundation for checkout that is more secure, performant, upgrade-safe, and customized using apps. With ever-changing regulations worldwide, including the introduction of card industry rules under PCI DSS v4, checkout. liquid is less secure than Checkout Extensibility, and Shopify must discontinue its support. Shopify protecting global commerce, the Shopify ecosystem, and our merchants’ businesses with this transition.

Starting August 14, 2024, Shopify begin the process of shutting down checkout. liquid for the Information, Shipping, and Payment pages completely, shops that are not upgraded will see the following impacts:

  • Checkout. Liquid customizations will be locked: Shopify will not provide customer support for updating or fixing checkout. liquid customizations on the Information, Shipping, and Payment pages. Customizations will be locked and uneditable. Shops using this obsolete code past the deadline do so at their own risk.
  • Payment method changes will be locked: The ability to add, edit, or remove payment providers from checkout will be disabled.
  • Risk indicators for orders will be disabled: Accurate risk assessment becomes unreliable with unsand boxed code executing in the checkout, so fraud indicators and recommendations in the admin will no longer be available for new orders.
  • Slower Shopify Payments payouts: Since orders will be deemed as higher risk, payouts may be delayed by up to 5 days after a transaction is processed.

Starting January 6, 2025, Shopify will begin auto-upgrading checkouts that continue to use checkout. liquid with a 30-day notice via email, which means checkout. liquid customizations will be lost.

As a trusted partner, Shopify wanted to give you advanced notice of these details. Please keep this information confidential until we communicate it directly to merchants next week, in alignment with Section 6: Confidentiality of your Partner Program Agreement.

Assist your clients in upgrading by the deadline:

  • View the customizations report in your client’s admin, Settings > Checkout, which shows all the checkout. liquid customizations and suggest alternatives using Checkout Extensibility.
